I am not a binge watcher, but two shows in the last week have had me glued to my TV screen and desperate to watch the next episode. Those shows are ‘You’ and ‘Sex Education’, both very different Netflix Originals.
Every now and then you find a show that just becomes your life, you cannot stop watching it. It seemed fitting that Panasonic have asked me to write a post about my favourite Netflix shows to help promote their Oled Tv Panasonic. I can’t really think of a much better way to kick back and relax, whilst watching your favourite show!
You, 2018

‘You’ is a gripping crime, thriller series following a bookseller and his quest to live happily ever after with the unlucky lady who happened to walk into his shop one day. This series focuses on Joe, the bookseller – come psychopath, that you really do love by the end of this series. I only want to best for Joe, which is enough to make me wonder about my thinking, because he does some seriously questionable things!
I really liked that this series was about book lovers, it pleases my bibliophile heart. I was able to see some cool books, a really cosy bookshop and feel inspired to write by Beck; the other lead character in this series, and struggling writer.
This show is unusual because it is always unexpected, you can’t guess where it’s going. I like the way the plot unfolds and that we have Joe narrating it with a voiceover. It offers some humour and makes this different from other thriller shows. Joe doesn’t know what he’s doing, he is winging it, but that makes him all the more likeable… as much as you can like the antagonist of a story (a lot).
Sex Education, 2019

I can successfully say that I was able to binge watch this new Netflix series over the course of one weekend. This show is funny, weird and important; from the representation down to the message it sends about sex. Set in the heart of a sixth form (age 16-18) in a school in Wales, Otis and Maeve open a sex clinic to offer therapy to the students of this hormonal school.
The plot was refreshing and realistic when it came to the problems each student was experiencing. It was startlingly honest, and when talking about sex on a show that is watched by teens (and adults), it’s important to erase the taboo nature around the subject. I would say this probably isn’t a show to watch with your parents though, could get a little awkward at times!
I was so happy to see so many different volumes of representation in this series. There was such a vast spread of characters and relationships, including strong representations for LGBTQIA+. I hope that all viewers can see parts of themselves in some of these characters.

So those are the two shows I’ve been binging this month on Netflix, let me know in the comments if you’ve seen either of these and what you thought.
