October is most definitely the time to watch a horror movie, right? I mean even if you don’t like horror, there are some low key scary films you could probably get on board with. Here’s a little list of my recommendations.
I thought you may just prefer a little summary of each of these films to get the gist of whether you’d like to watch them or not.
• The Village
This film makes your brain work, it’s a really clever movie and I love it. I always go back to this one each year, but I wish I could watch it for the first time again. It’s all about a village that has a hidden secret from the villagers that never seem to leave.
• The Birds
I couldn’t not throw a Hitchcock film in here, this one is a classic and plays on a really simply fear. It’s basically following a woman in a new town where birds start attacking people.

• Psycho
I couldn’t not add it in, if you haven’t already seen it then this is definitely one to give a watch! You must have heard of the iconic shower scene, this film is about a girl who goes missing when staying at the Bates Motel.
• The Shining
You can’t not see the Shining, you just can’t. For one, it means that the Ready Player One film will make a bit more sense. But also it’s a staple horror if you’re a fan of the genre! It’s all about a family being sent to look after a very isolated hotel during an extremely slowly winter.
• The Purge
A more modern addition to the list, but it seems to come up in every horror search. This is your typical violent and jumpy horror if that’s the sort of thing you enjoy! In this film all crime is made legal on one night of the year, you can imagine it’s a bit of a messy one.
• The Cabin in the Woods
This is a satirical take on a certain type of horror film. It was funny in the way that the horror was so typical and it wasn’t taking itself too seriously. I really enjoyed it for these reasons!
• IT
So I haven’t actually watched this one right now, but I will be watched it on Halloween. I loved the book by Stephen King and the new film came out last year, so I’m keen to give this movie about a killer clown a watch!

• Get Out
I watched this one recently, a really interested film looking at psychological horror when a daughter brings home her boyfriend for the weekend. It’s well worth a watch I would say.
• The Addams Family
Not all Halloween films have to be scary! This is a fun, family film about a very odd pairing of a family who have a passion for all things bizarre and dark.

What films would you add to this list?

I am still not over the first time I watched The Cabin in the Woods.
I may have to rewatch that one this year!
The Birds is such a classic and it’s been forever since I’ve seen it!
Isn’t it! I need to give it a rewatch too to be honest.
