One of Us Is Next is the gripping sequel to Karen M. McManus’ One of Us Is Lying, a book I read in one sitting last year. I’m onto a real thriller kick at the moment and this book did not disappoint!

I am having a craving for thriller books at the moment, I love the mystery, the intrigue and most importantly, the suspense! A good thriller will have me hooked from the first few pages and feeling satisfied after a successful conclusion. One of Us Is Next achieved this perfectly! Picking up one year after the first book in the series, this book follows the anonymous creation of a truth or dare gossip game that has very harmful intentions.

We see the characters from the first book featured, but this is following the students that were younger than the previous main characters. They are still all linked together either through friendships, work or family so we still get the familiarity of knowing some of the characters. I actually much preferred the characters in this book, particularly Maeve and Knox who are real and genuine humans with their flaws. They are also refreshing characters because they don’t really fit into the typical high school stereotypes, none of the characters in this book do. I like this tact, I think it makes the story less predictable and more exciting.

I think that Karen M. McManus has chosen the perfect kids to tell the story in this sequel. They are pure and honest and I really love them all and want to protect them. This book had me crying, laughing and sitting in shock with what was thrown at these characters. Also, it contains some heroic moments which I just can’t deal with, they send me into tears without fail. Basically, what I’m telling you is that by the end of this book, I was an emotional wreck.

I honestly did not see where this book was going and I wasn’t even trying to guess. I was so wrapped up in the story, I just enjoyed seeing it play out in front of me. I really couldn’t put this book down by the end because I needed to know what happened. When the big reveals came I had goosebumps up my arm which is always a good sign for a thriller!

Also with no spoilers at all, the relationships and romances in this book are the cutest and I love them deeply! If you need romance in your books alongside the exciting moments, you shall not be disappointed with this book.

Okay, I’m done gushing over it now. Go read this book. After you’ve read the first one. It’s AMAZING! You can buy it from Waterstones here or Amazon here.

I’ve heard mixed things about these books! I think I might enjoy them, and I’m all for books which have good characters and good romances, so maybe I should give them a go…
