One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus has been on my TBR for a very long time, but in my recent binge of mystery and thriller books, I had to pick it up and see what all the fuss was about.

This book has your typical characters in it, much like Truly Devious, but it used this to play on these roles for the plot. The cover alone lets you know that we are dealing with a geek, a joke, a criminal and a princess and of course… a murderer! With the students alone in a room together when one of them mysteriously dies, this book is a thriller to work out who did it.
I have to say, this was very well written and engaging. I read 300 pages of it in one sitting, so that’s saying something. It was very addictive and varied the pace enough that I didn’t feel I wanted to put the book down. I enjoyed the characters, especially how they developed throughout the book and formed new relationships because of the events of the book. This death impacted them in realistic ways and I like how Karen M. McManus reflects this in her writing.
One of Us is Lying succeeded in hiding it’s ending from me until right at the last minute, which impressed me and gets the book instant brownie points. I also think this story was just the right amount of length to keep me entertained, it wasn’t too long that it lost my attention and not too short that it didn’t have chance to get going. Also, this story felt reminiscent of Pretty Little Liars with the manipulation and group of school kids, which I loved!
Overall, I took a lot of enjoyment from this book and I look forward to continuing along with Karen M. McManus’ writing.
