Who doesn’t love a long weekend? As this weekend we have one fast approaching – and much needed – I thought I’d recommend you some short books to read over a long weekend.
My Sister the Serial Killer, Oyinkan Braithwaite
- Short and compelling chapters
- Looks at a serial killer story from an entirely different perspective
- The main character is a strong independent woman in a successful job
- Explores a whole other side to a sisterly bond
The Empress of Salt and Fortune, Nghi Vo
- Reads like a fable, so feels like a familiar story
- The narrative takes shape as a story being told to another character
- Explores a whole life story in under 200 pages
- An expansive world to become absorbed into

City of Bones, Victoria Schwab
- A middle grade, paranormal series, with each book being set in a different city
- A human is best friends with a ghost
- Said human also has the ability to see ghosts and help them move on
- 10/10 for atmosphere
Meet Cute Club, Jack Harbon
- A bit of fun, sex and romance
- A book about books, but mainly about sex
- Character and passion-driven
- Just an easy read that does what it says on the tin
The Lost Apothecary, Sarah Penner
- A new fave that combines historical fiction with a modern-day investigation
- Empowering women characters in all directions
- Will leave you knowing you can do anything
- Inspired by real events

Loved this post! Will definitely check these books out. The serial killer one stood out to me 😊
Really glad you enjoyed the post – My Sister the Serial Killer is fantastic!
Loved My Sister the Serial Killer and City of Bones and started the Lost Apothecary this afternoon! I needed a bit of a palette cleanser after struggling a bit with Circe.
