Rarely do I come across a book that sweeps me up and engulfs me in the story the way Daisy Jones and The Six did. This book is told through a series of interviews with the members of the band and people who knew them. It is the story of how Daisy Jones merged with The Six in the 70’s to make a famous fictional band.
I prefer the dialogue to the description when reading, so as this book was interview-based, I really enjoyed the format. It also made me zoom through it at a record pace, finishing this book in a day. We enter this book not knowing much about any of the characters, their motives and their lives, we see them living their young adult lives. As they grow up they go through the usual changes, finding partners, break downs, successes and we see it all with them.
This book is partially split, following Daisy Jones as times and the band The Six, until the two merge into one. I was left downloading Spotify playlists filled with 70’s music after reading about these artists. There was a lot of focus on the songwriting and the feeling behind the lyrics. Obviously, I know how much thought artists put into creating songs, but this really brought it home just how much of themselves they put into their lyrics.
There is so much heart and feeling at the centre of this book. Everything the characters do unpeels another layer of their personality for the reader to discover. There are complex feelings at play and it will tug at your heartstrings for sure. I definitely left this book thinking/wishing that the characters were real. I wanted to listen to their music and read about more of their lives.
I can’t put my finger on exactly why Taylor Jenkins Reid is such a fantastic author, but she captured me in just the same way with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I have now added various other books by her to my wishlist, I need more of this hypnotising writing she creates. She is a beautiful writer and I’m glad I’ve started to read her books.
Great review! I need to read some Taylor Jenkins Reid asap; I really want to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but I’ve seen so many rave reviews of Daisy Jones & The Six that I’ll have to check this one out, too. 🙂
I still haven’t read this one but have read a few other TJR books. Like you said, I don’t know what it is about her writing, but she really has a knack for sucking me into her stories. They’re so evocative and I always feel such strong emotions and connections to her characters. Will really have to bump this up my TBR!
This is one of those books that I really want to read. I just need to pick up my copy. I am undecided about audio vs print. Has anyone listened to the audio version of this book? If so, how did you like it?

I’ve read Daisy Jones and the six but not any of her other books! It was one of my first reads of 2019 and I really have enjoyed it! I definitely need to pick up more of her books now
I’ve seen this book all over the place, but I had no clue what it was about. The formatting sounds so interesting! I have had The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo on my list for a while since I’ve heard so many great things, so I’m not very surprised that Reid’s other book is also fantastic. Great review! 💕
