So we’re seven months through the year, that means it’s time for a little reading recap. Here’s a list of my highest rated books and my lowest.
So far this year I’ve crushed my Goodreads goal by finishing 32 books, which I’m very proud of! I actually struggled to create the lower-rated books because I’ve been very on board with DNFing books this year. So if I’m not enjoying it, I generally won’t stick around.
Highest rated reads of 2019
Daisy Jones and the Six, Taylor Jenkins Reid
This was my last five-star read and it was AMAZING, it completely blew me away. Taylor Jenkins Reid has such a fantastic way of writing, I need more books like Daisy Jones!
Radio Silence, Alice Oseman
This is also a recent addition to the list. I adored this book and I totally resonated with it. Upon finishing it I immediately ordered more of Alice Oseman’s books, which you know is always a good sign!
The Love & Lies of Rukhsana Ali, Sabina Khan
This book was a total surprise for me, I didn’t expect to love it quite as much as I did. It’s a beautiful and important story that has still stuck with me even now.
In At The Deep End, Kate Davies
This book was so funny and saucy, I adored it. It was brilliant for a good laugh, but also very real. As soon as I finished it I craved more!
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, Gail Honeyman
This was another book I didn’t expect to love as much as I did. I now find myself crediting this to be my favourite read of the year, although I think that slot may now have been taken over by Daisy Jones.
Lowest rated reads of 2019
Other Words for Smoke, Sarah Maria Griffin
I really wanted to love this book, but I just wasn’t on board with it. It had such good potential and I can really see why so many have loved it. it just wasn’t for me!
Clockwork Angel, Cassandra Clare
I think I can accept now that I am never going to get on with the books set in this world. I enjoyed Lady Midnight but other than that I’m not a fan sadly!
That is honestly it for low scoring books for me this year. As I said, I DNF a lot more now so I don’t keep going with a book if I’m not enjoying it.
I’d love to know the books you’ve rated highest and lowest this year so far!

I didn’t get on with Other Words for Smoke either. I really wanted to love it as I’d heard so many people rave about it, but it wasn’t my style of book at all. It was too weird and wacky!
I felt exactly the same. Usually I like weird and wacky, but this one I just didn’t get on with!
I felt the same way about Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine! It was SO much deeper than I expected and so so moving!! And so many people including you have said great things about Daisy Jones and the Six…I need to prioritize this book!
Daisy Jones is amazing, another brilliant read!
I just added some of these to my to-read list! My favorite books so far this year have been the Arc of a Scythe series by Neal Shusterman.

I’d agree with you about Turtles All The Way Down, just didn’t enjoy it!
Eleanor Oliphant is on my TBR list and I have seen so many good reviews of it so I’m desperate to get to it. I haven’t heard of any of the other highest rated so will definitely have to remedy that! Great post xo
It’s honestly amazing, I’d really advise it!
Lovely update, Beth! I haven’t read Daisy Jones or Radio Silence yet, but I’ve heard so many wonderful things about both! I haven’t read anything by Cassandra Clare yet, but I’m sorry to see that Clockwork Angel was a bust. I hope you read many more enjoyable novels for the last half of the year! <3
They’re fantastic books, I hope you enjoy them if you do read them!
I did the same exact thing with Radio Silence! The second after I read it, I immediately took out the rest of Alice Oseman’s books from the library. It was such a fantastic read. It’s so great that you have so many more high rated books than low ones. Hope the rest of your reading for the year goes well!! 💕
It’s just too good not to! I met Alice Oseman this weekend and she was lovely.
