The year is coming to a close, which has me reflecting on the 60 books I’ve read over 2019. I’m pleased to say I smashed my Goodreads goal of 30 books and had a fantastic reading year. Here are the best books I read and reviewed this year.
The Best Books of 2019
The Starless Sea, Erin Morgenstern
My god this book was stunning, it felt like falling into a dream whenever I opened the pages. It’s the kind of book I could truly escape in, filled with metaphors, fate and a love of literature.
Serpent & Dove, Shelby Mahurin
This book was great fun, the characters are all unique and people I really want to read about. It made me laugh out loud a few times too which is always a win, I love the dry wit of Lou.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, Holly Jackson
I was put on a thriller kick after reading this amazing English based investigative book from Holly Jackson and I’m on the edge of my seat for more in this series now!
A Curse So Dark and Lonely, Brigid Kemmerer
I’m so glad I jumped into this series, it was the perfect addictive YA fantasy and now I’m well and truly on the band waggon and want to find out more about these characters. Of course, I also adored A Heart So Fierce and Broken.
Daisy Jones and the Six, Taylor Jenkins Reid
I don’t think I’ll ever stop raving about this book and Taylor Jenkins Reid’s writing style, she is a Queen! I didn’t think I’d enjoy this one as much as I did, but its unique format made it very addictive.
Radio Silence, Alice Oseman
This YA contemporary was an important read with a fresh narrative that didn’t focus around a romance, which I really appreciated. I loved every second of it and following finishing it I bought all of Alice Oseman’s other books.
In at the Deep End, Kate Davies
An adult contemporary for the list, this book was just fantastic, very big on the LGBT rep which I’m all for and also very raunchy so not for everyone, but definitely for me. I loved it!
Becoming, Michelle Obama
My god this woman is a powerhouse and hearing her narrate the audiobook of her memoir was so motivational, I would advise anyone to download the audiobook for this one!
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, Gail Honeyman
Last but not least, this fantastic novel about Eleanor’s life and her struggles and how she embraces herself. This story was fantastic and I think it’s one I will reread in the future.

I read Becoming last year and loved it. This year I read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and towards the end of it was slowing down my reading because I didn’t want it to end

OMG I’m so glad to see so many titles on my TBR on this list! I just got a copy of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and I thought it would be good, but I’m so hype to see it on this kind of list!
I haven’t done my Top Ten list yet, but Elinor Oliphant and Daisy Jones will both be contenders. Possibly The Starless Sea as well, although I’m not picking it up until Tuesday…
I really wanted to read starless sea this year but never got round to it. Hopefully in 2020!

Lovely post, Beth!!! I’m so excited to read Radio Silence! Having never read Alice Oseman, I’m not 100% sure what to expect, but I’ve heard such great praise for the author and her works. I adored Daisy Jones and the Six as well, and included it on my favorite reads of the year list too! I still need to get to a curse so dark and lovey and serpent and dove this year!
