Janaury Wrap Up

New year, new books and experiences! My 744 hours of January post is a wrap up of everything I’ve consumed, achieved and enjoyed in the first month of the year.

Books

Cucina Tipica: An Italian Adventure, Andrew Cotto // 3.5 STAR
Mythos, Stephen Fry // 3.5 STAR
Call Me Alastair, Cory Leonardo // 4 STAR
The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho // 3 STAR
The Angel’s Game, Carlos Ruiz Zafón // 3 STAR
In an Absent Dream, Seanan McGuire // 4 STAR
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, Gail Honeyman //5 STAR

What a way to start the year for reading! I was thrilled to finish so many books in January, although only three of them managed to push past the three star mark. Still though, I really enjoyed reading a diverse level of books, in and out of my comfort zone. None of these were at all similar, but that’s what made this a fun reading month! By far the best book I read this month was Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, when I was crying at it, I was laughing my head off, an excellent read!

Films

Ralph Breaks the Internet // 4 STAR
Every Day // 2 STAR
The Favourite // 3 STAR
Unbreakable // 2 STAR

I’ll be honest, I only went to see The Favourite because a friend of mine said it made her feel immensely uncomfortable and I wanted to know why. I can report that I still don’t know why, this was yes, a very odd film, but a very well acted one which portrayed a rather taboo subject for the time. I thought it was quite well done and I enjoyed the satirical way the characters were written.

TV Shows

You // 5 STAR
Sex Education  // 5 STAR
Tidying up with Marie Kondo // 3.5 STAR
Doctor Who // 4 STAR
Friends from College (Season 1 & 2) // 3.75 STAR

Oh my god so many good TV shows in January! Mainly though my love fell with You and Sex Education, I included them in my recent blog post about Netflix shows you should be watching. You can see me fully praising them both there, but for now I will say I thought they were just excellent shows in their own rights and I can’t wait to see more series!

The Marie Kondo show was a bit of a random choice for me, I think it just came up when I was in the right mood. But as soon as I finished it, you can bet I went and refolded every item of clothing I owned. Space saving truly maximised! This is certainly a good show to watch if you want some hints and tips on how to live a tidy lifestyle.

Finally Doctor Who. I’ve added this onto my January wrap up because I watched the final episode on catch up. Well. I will hold up my hands for this one, like I always do when someone else takes over playing the Doctor and say that yes, I was wrong, Jodie Whittaker is actually an incredibly good Doctor. There. I said it. I admit my mistakes. I think I disliked her originally because she had been type cast as the same role in anything else I’d seen her own, but she certainly came into her own in Doctor Who.

  1. Sounds like January has been a great month in terms of books, movies and shows! I really enjoyed You as well and binged it in a couple of days. Jodie also grew on me as the Doctor, at first I was so sceptical but after seeing a few of her episodes, I think she’s a great fit. Thanks for sharing!

    1. I think she suits it a lot better than I thought she would. I think she’d be type cast for a lot of things, so it was nice to see her as something different in Doctor Who.

  2. I’m still meaning to get round to watching YOU. It’s a book isn’t it, have you read it? I may read before I watch I’m unsure! Definitely need to be watching ralph breaks the internet!

    1. I haven’t no, I’ve seen it about and I think the narration in the show is spot on from the book. The book does look really good!
