5 places to visit during autumn in the UK

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, the warm glow of the golden leaves as they fall around your feat, the colder days that mean we can wear jumpers. It’s just perfect. So here are five places you can visit to absorb all you can of autumn.

This is a list of places dotted throughout the UK, I haven’t visited them all but have researched into seeing where would be good to visit during the autumn.

Lacock

Commonly known for being where Harry Potter was filmed, Lacock is a beautiful little village in Wiltshire. The old abbey and quaint little village shops make it a special place to visit during autumn. You don’t have to spend money other than for parking if you don’t want to go into the abbey. There are tons of little shops that sell seasonally themed items that range from dedicated chocolate shops to beautifully fragranced soaps and candles. Each shop is bespoke, with no mass market chains, every item feels special.

Stourhead

Another one from Wiltshire (I live here so you can’t blame me). This stunning National Trust property is well known for its gardens which come out in the most beautiful colours during autumn. This property was made for this time of year, you won’t want to miss this before the leaves fall and winter hits. This would also be the perfect spot for any autumn aesthetic Instagrammers, so have your camera at the ready!

Hever Castle

This gorgeous castle in Kent used to be home to the Boleyn family during the Tudor times. I have such a fascination with Anne Boleyn, so this is definitely high up on my list to visit. In the autumn time, the red and orange leaves creep up the sides of the building and the grounds flourish with seasonal beauty. It truly looks like a stunning place to visit at this time of year, make sure you have your phone fully charged for photos!

The Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales has been described as ‘an artist’s delight’ in the autumn, with the autumn colours that take over these Northern landscapes. With plenty of woodland walks and stunning views, this is a place to go to really experience nature in the autumn. I’m heading to Giggleswick in November, so I’m excited to see some of this autumn beauty that the Yorkshire Dales boasts and perhaps enjoy a meal in the pub on a crisp autumnal evening.

Edinburgh

This is another one on my travel list for the year, I’m also heading up to Scotland in November. The streets of Edinburgh are booming from the Fringe Crows in the summer, so the autumn is a quieter time of year to visit this city. There are so many sites to see that will be complemented by the autumn colours, Edinburgh Castle, Carlton Hill and Holyrood Park to name a few. I’ve also seen talk that there are some excellent farmers’ markets which just equals cosiness to me!
