The bibliophile's night out book tag | Original book tag

I’m not a big party animal, but with lockdown really sinking in, I’m missing seeing my friends and socialising. So whilst listening to some dance music I decided to make a fun book tag that just has a bit of laugh with the stereotypical moments on a night out.

You don’t have to love clubbing to take part, I just thought it was too fun not to make!

My Answers

Pre-drinks | A prequel/novella you’ve read

*starts sweating, checks shelves, realises I have zero prequels* Is A Court of Frost and Starlight a novella? I think I’ll have that as my answer, the cute wintery catch up with Feyre and Rhysand from Sarah J Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses series. This was just a casual little catch up with our favourite characters but with a Christmas theme and honestly it was just good fun.

The taxi to town | A book about travel

The first book that comes to mind is The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George which features a bookshop on a boat that goes on a journey around the waters of France in discovery of passion and love. It’s a beautiful story and I really  enjoyed reading about the journey, a bit nicer than a taxi to town too!

Trying to find a table | A book you didn’t like to start with, but then ended up loving

Uhhh the torture of finding a table, never fun! Elantris by Brandon Sanderson would be my answer for this prompt. I wouldn’t say I didn’t like it, but it certainly took a while to get going, but once it did wow, what a fantasy! I really loved this book as an introduction to Brandon Sanderson’s writing and will certainly be reading more from him.

First round of drinks | A first book in a series

The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart is a book I read recently and have mixed feelings on, the longer I think about it the more I did actually enjoy it. But I believe it’s the first book in a new fantasy series that follows an Empire in a state of rebellion and some very weird bone shard magic to control creatures made from various other creatures.

The dance floor | A book that makes you want to jump up and down with excitement

I’m going to list a book I haven’t read yet for this option because I am honestly so excited to read it and I know I’m going to love it. That book is Slay by Brittney Morris which looks amazing! It centres around a VR game that our main character has created (secretly) to escape a world where she is one of the only Black kids at her school. But then someone is killed and the game is blamed and a lot of trouble ensues. This book looks like it tackles a lot, it looks really good and I’m honestly so excited to read it!

The toilets | A book you wouldn’t touch with a barge pole

Can I just say anything with Jace Wayland in it? Because I cannot stand that fictional boy. The Mortal Instruments is not for me which is sad, because I really enjoyed Lady Midnight. But if you know me, you know my distaste for Jace is strong and his arrogance stops me from reading anything where he ‘graces’ the pages.

The first to bail | The last book you DNF’d

I’m not 100% committing to DNFing this book, but I certainly wasn’t feeling it when I picked it up recently and that is Fly By Night by Frances Hardinge. This book is about a young girl and her goose going on a journey to learn about the power of words and honestly I just wasn’t feeling it at the time of picking it up. So maybe I’ll get back to it at some point!

The journey home | A book you can’t really remember the plot of anymore

I don’t know how it’s happened, but I loved reading The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty a few months ago and now my brain has just lot the plot after the first few hundred pages. I don’t know why, but I can’t remember it! I’m excited to finish this series though, but I may need to do a reread quicker than expected!

The morning after | A comfort read

Is there any other option for this that isn’t the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series by Jenny Han? I love this series so much, there is something about Lara Jean’s story that is just so cosy and the perfect comfort read. The audiobooks for this series are brilliant too, so would definitely recommend them!
