How I arrange my bookshelves to make my own personal library

Arranging bookshelves can be quite the enigma, I am constantly rearranging mine! I love seeing how others organising their shelves, so I thought I’d share mine with you lovely people!

I have three bookshelves in my room and I adored them, though there’s never enough space for all of my books! Let’s work from the top down, shall we?

The top two shelves on my bookshelves contain some very good reads! There’s some method to my madness here, you can see that I have a few ARCs on the top right of these shelves. These are Muse of Nightmares and The Priory of the Orange Tree which I adored and are huge, so they have no other spot but here to sit on my bookshelves! Also on this shelf, we have a few fantasy reads that I’ve loved, such as Passenger and The Night Circus.

Right of this shelf we have a lot of my historical thrillers and books that make me think. Shall we call it the clever shelf? Below that one is my Mythology shelf (plus a few other books that won’t fit anywhere else). I love this shelf, I’m a little obsessed with Greek and Norse Mythology! Then there’s possibly my favourite shelf, my lovely hardback collection. I love hardbacks, they look so uniform on my shelves! One day I’ll have more of them, but I just don’t have space at the moment.

These shelves are the centre of my room pretty much, they’re the ones your eyes go to. We have my Schwab section, in an ideal world she’d have a shelf to herself, but again… space. Then the Sarah J Maas shelf, they just about fit perfectly into this little section.

Below is another favourite shelf, my rainbow shelves 🌈 This is a recent addition and I’m so pleased with how it looks! I love the rainbow and having somewhere for all of my contemporary books. In June I’ve only been reading LGBTQIA+ books, of which a lot of them have come from this shelf. Then next along we have my beautiful Lord of the Rings shelf, with Saruman watching over things.

The lower down the bookshelf I go, I’m seeing it gets a little messy! Here we have a mix of my ‘other’ books, the ones that don’t quite fit into any other categories. These contain my Neil Gaiman books, Dan Brown, the Shatter Me series and the odd books I’ve picked up here and there. Next to this shelf, I have my non-fiction history section. Below that is my creative/poetry shelf. Half of my poetry collection is down here, alongside prompt books for drawing and writing.

The giant hardbacks are books I have had forever, I’ve been slowly building up this collection. Some favs include my National Geographic book and Information is Beautiful, which is a book of infographics teaching all sorts of fun facts. Then the paperbacks on the left are my body and mind books, containing such wonders as The Joys of Sex and The God Delusion.

Lastly, we have a bit of a misc shelf, containing poetry, fantasy and some mystery books. Below this one, I’ve got my ARCs and my Stephen King collection. This shelf is always one I struggle to order because all of the books are different heights, which is very annoying! And finally, my Potter shelf! I’d love to buy the new hardbacks to add to this shelf too, mine are very faded from years of being on my shelves. One day when I have my very own library, I think I’ll update my collection.
