In 2019 I read A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and ADORED it, it gripped me from page one and I loved the way Pip narrated the story using her case notes, it made it so unique. In the sequel Good Girl, Bad Blood Pip is back to solve a new crime, to look for Jamie, a missing person and brother of her close friend. Going into this book I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype. It’s rare that sequels are as good as the first ones, so I was nervous to read this. But I didn’t have anything to worry about because Holly Jackson smashed it and wrote another amazing YA thriller!
Pip is a flawed character, she is morally torn throughout this book with what the right thing to do is and I really like that about her. It makes her a more believable lead character, she isn’t flawless and she has dilemmas to face. The mystery to solve in this book is also closer to home for her and Connor, Jamie’s brother is accompanying her on a lot of her tasks so it makes it all seem a lot more real.
Holly Jackson’s writing is fantastic for building intrigue, I felt hooked and desperate to see what would happen. At one point she gave me goosebumps and made me turn around to check no one was in the room with me because I got freaked out. I love it when a book can bring me in so much that it feels like I’m inside the pages with the characters.
The atmosphere of a small countryside town in England is perfect for this book. I also love reading about somewhere so local to me. I know this is a fictional setting, but Little Kilton is located within the Thames Valley, which is where I am from. This adds another layer of enjoyment to this series for me and I feel I can really picture the setting.
Of course, the factor that really completes this series for me is the characters. I especially love Pip and Ravi together, they are the perfect duo and they complement each other really well. Also, there is no stereotyping or obvious relationship plotlines in this series which I really appreciate and makes it refreshing to read. There is so much more to say about the characters and their development in this book, but I don’t want to spoil it for you.
Overall, I loved this book a lot and it stands next to the first book as another five star read.
