Books that feel like they are giving you a warm hug

I think we could all do with a giant hug right now, I know I want one. And whilst some of us may be surrounded by hugs, this is for those of you still waiting for yours. Here are some books I think feel like they’re giving you a warm hug.

Instead of giving you hefty descriptions for these, I’m going to list three bullet points under each as to why they are like warm hugs and why you should read them.

Caraval, Stephanie Garber

  • Make you feel bold and like anything can happen
  • The characters love and care for each other so much and it feels cosy to read something like that
  • The setting is unlike anything you’ve read before.

One True Loves, Taylor Jenkins Reid

  • A love triangle you will adore
  • Will make you cry, but in a happy way
  • There is a lot of love in this book.

The Hobbit, J. R. R. Tolkien

  • Follows a journey of characters that you will grow to love
  • Contains friendship that feels more like a family
  • Written to be read aloud, one to enjoy with others.

The Tea Dragon Society, Katie O’Neill

  • The cutest story about dragons ever
  • Has lovely morals
  • Is just a happy book, it feels positive and exactly like a hug.

Under a Dancing Star, Laura Wood

  • Beautiful summer setting to make you feel all warm
  • About passions and art
  • A love story to hook you in.

City of Ghosts, Victoria Schwab

  • Super cute friendship between a girl and a ghost
  • Takes you on a tour of Edinburgh
  • A middle grade for both adults and children.

The Trials of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #1), Jessica Townsend

  • A story that provides hope for second shot at life
  • Some crazy, fun characters
  • Follows a really cool competition that is full of imagination and creativity.

Becoming, Michelle Obama

  • Michelle has such a cosy way of writing
  • This book is both insightful and fun
  • It feels like your reading a book from a mum-figure, which instantly equals a hug for me.

Tilly and the Bookwanders, Anna James

  • A book about a love for books
  • Set partially in a bookshop
  • Such a loving family environment you will most definitely feel all warm and cosy.

  3. I haven’t had a hug since August! I loved Under A Dancing Star. I’m currently rewatching Gilmore Girls because that’s my ultimate comfort series.
