By some sort of popular demand apparently a lot of you would like to hear about the books I didn’t like so much in 2017. This is no way me hating on any of these authors, it’s just a list of some of the books I didn’t get on so well with. I’d be really interested to know your opinions on them too.
This book had so much hype so I was excited to read it for a book club type read along, thinking it would follow suit with Ready Player One in style. But really I just felt it was written very simply and didn’t engage me at all. It had potential, but instead it followed every YA trope going sadly.
I listened to this on audiobook and for me it was far too negative and wasn’t what I needed from a book at that time. I think writing needs to have some positivity otherwise there is no wish to continue reading. I understand the need to tackle the harder parts of life, but there wasn’t any silver lining.
It took me sooo long to read this book, because of the characters. I felt they were pathetic, irritating and uninspiring, nothing was interesting about them. Therefore I really struggle to read a story based around these people!
Thirteen Reasons Why, Jay Asher
This book made me feel awful, similarly to A Monster Calls, this was all negative and I couldn’t stand it. I like my books to have some light in them so I have a reason to keep reading, but this one lacked it so much that I didn’t even bother with a proper review.
City of Ashes, Cassandra Clare
I don’t like Jace. There I said it! I find him one of the most annoying and self absorbed characters I have ever read. I don’t understand how anyone can actually like him, so much so that it completely ruined the book for me and has put me off of continuing with the series. Again, no review written.
