Dear readers, it has recently come to my attention that there is a certain similarity between YA love interests. That similarity comes in the form of a letter.
That letter is R.
Yes dear reader, R. For Roar and a Riot and Romance – characteristics portrayed in all of these male leads perhaps? With the help of the lovely Lauren from FictionTea, I’ve formed a very serious list for you of said gentlemen.
Tis as follows…
Rhysand – A Court of Thorns and Roses Series
The sexiest love interest of them all? Known for the length of his wing span.
Rowan – Throne of Glass Series
A bit of a dick really isn’t he? He grew on me I guess (not really).
Reid – Serpent & Dove
A bae in the purest ginger form.
Rhen – A Curse So Dark and Lonely
He gets kind of grumpy around autumn time, best to stay away. Brigid Kemmerer herself said when asked about this trend “It’s a sexy sound, like pirates? Rrrrrr”
Ron – Harry Potter (not YA but let me have it)
What we can we say about Ron? Ridikkulus!
Rhy – A Darker Shade of Magic
A squishy little bean of pureness.
What do we conclude from this dear reader? Authors clearly find the letter R both appealing and perhaps arousing… watch out Richard and Rick, they’re coming for you! This letter rolls off the tongue and onto the page, R is the way forward if you want to write the perfect love interest!
I haven’t read enough YA to notice this pattern, but I love it :’) I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year (wish me luck!), and I’ve started out with the very vaguest of story ideas. I decided to do this at the last second, so I have no virtually no prep. Maybe I can reach into the “R” archive of names…
