I wrote a blog post back in 2018 containing my top 5 auto-buy authors, so I thought it would be fun to see if those authors still remain on my list and which new ones I have added. So here is my list of authors I will always buy the new books of.
On the old list was:
- V. E. Schwab
- Laini Taylor
- J. K. Rowling
- Tomi Adeyemi
- Stephanie Garber
Whilst I love all of these writers as authors, I have to say that I think my list in 2020 will be quite different to 2018. Not to say I don’t still love their writing, just that they don’t quite make the top 5 for authors I would immediately buy from.

So, in no particular order…
H. G. Parry
Whilst author H. G. Parry only has one book out at the time of me writing this post, man is it a good one! The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep was a truly enchanting novel about characters from books being bought into our world. If you know me, you know I love books about books, so this was right up my street. I loved reading every page of this book and will be buying Parry’s next book as soon as it is released.

Kate Davies
Kate Davies is the absolutely hilarious author of In At The Deep End, a book about the journey of a woman discovering she is a lesbian. This book is included in my blog post about books that are full of sunshine and will make you feel happy because my goodness it is funny. I think we all need a good laugh and this book for me has set Kate Davies aside as an author that can write comedy. For that reason, I am eagerly awaiting any further books she may write.

Sarah J Maas
Sarah J Maas probably seems like an obvious choice for many YA book bloggers after her Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses series, but the reason I’m adding Maas to this list now is because of the powerhouse book that is House of Earth and Blood. Sarah J Maas’ step in adult, urban fantasy was a massive success and this book ha secured her place in my auto-buy author’s list.
R. F. Kuang
R. F. Kuang is another newer author that I now have on my radar. Two years ago I was so excited to read The Poppy War and oh my god I loved it. I’ve since reread it and love it even more, as well as the sequel The Dragon Republic. This is a fairly dark fantasy series, but I love the research Kuang puts into her writing and I find her writing style to be compelling and intriguing. I can’t wait to keep going with this series and to see what other books she writers!
V. E. Schwab
And of course, remaining on my list, did I save the best till last in this list of no particular order… yes I did! Victoria Schwab will always be my Queen for her writing and her personality. She is such a lovely human and she writes such amazing fantasy worlds and it is for both of these reasons that I will always support her as an author and why she is someone I will always jump to auto-buy.

I keep hearing lots about this Uriah Heep book so I think it’s definitely going to be making an appearance on my TBR at some point. I’m so glad you enjoyed the new Maas book, it’s sitting right next to me in my massive book stack of things to tackle next. Kingdom of Ash broke me a little bit so intrepidly nervous going into it!
