Let’s meet Marianne, a quick-minded young lady who is stuck on a ship full of men on the ocean she so desperately fears. Sounds like the set up for a happy and hopeful book right? Hahahaha, if you’re here for happiness and smiles, please leave now because this book leaves no room for joy in your heart.
Marianne knows she’s not like everyone else aboard her father’s ship of super-skilled assassins, she wants to do something more. She doesn’t want to hurt people, she doesn’t want the life on this ship that she feels she has to have. So this book sees her battling with the person she wants to be, who to trust and which path to take. She’s helped by Grace, who I love. Grace is a badass assassin who has Marianne’s back, she’s a big sister role and she’s super cool. She always finds she needs to proove herself against the men and I just love her sass.
You know how usually a book has one big moment it’s all building up to? I feel like this book had about ten of them! Every chapter seemed to have some huge action-packed moment and if it wasn’t fuelled with fast-paced action, it was gut-wrenchingly sad. I’ve seen this being compared to Pirates of the Carribean and I can see why, this is a page turner for sure.
If you’re after fast paced action, a little bit of heartbreak and adventures, this is a book for you!
Honestly, I’m a huge fan of action-packed stories, probably because I love Tolkien’s works so much :’) Novels with self-to-self conflicts are usually very promising, and this one sounds like no exception!
