I had to do it, I had to post my best books wrap up for the year. This has been a year of AMAZING reads, books that have left me on the edge of my seat desperate for more, books that have left me crying, books that had my laughing. Here’s my favourites!

This is in reverse order, the books at the top of this list I read towards the end of the year, and the books at the bottom I read at the start of year.

The Priory of the Orange Tree, Samantha Shannon

This book isn’t even out yet and I cannot stop myself from loudly singing it’s praises. This fantasy combines everything we need in an epic tale of a Queedom and a fight to protect it.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Taylor Jenkins Reid

This book built me up and then it DESTROYED ME! It is by far one of the very best books I had the pleasure of reading this year. In fact I read it via Audible, which was a fantastic way to consume the story, the narration was superb and I’d highly recommend it!

Angels and Demons, Dan Brown

I don’t know why I waited so long to read this, but spurred on by a visit to Rome, I had to devour this amazing book. The story is brilliant and had me hooked at every point, it’s the perfect historical thriller, set in the modern day.

Vengeful, V.E. Schwab

This was an excellent sequel to an already amazing first book, Vicious. This series is my favourite of Schwab’s, the characters are totally driving it and I love them very much, which of course makes it even more soul destroying to read too! LOVE THIS BOOK!

Muse of Nightmares, Laini Taylor

Strange the Dreamer was one of my highest rated books of last year, I loved it, I couldn’t stop raving about it. So I was very excited to read the sequel to it and let me tell you, IT LIVED UP to expectations!

City of Ghosts, V.E. Schwab

This middle grade novel was superb, I loved every second of it and read it in almost one sitting. I really love Schwab’s writing style anyway, so I was thrilled to be able to read two of her new books this year and to be able to add them both to my best books wrap up!

The Poppy War, R.F. Kuang

I thought this book would slump me, huge and out of my reading comfort zone. But it brought me out of a slump, I tore through it and it left me with a drive to read more of this story, I am now eagerly awaiting the sequel.

Children of Blood and Bone, Tomi Adeyemi

This book was a refreshing dip into fantasy. It was exactly what I needed without me even knowing it. If you want an exciting fantasy with diverse characters and a lot of magic, this is the book for you!

The Hazel Wood, Melissa Albert

With Alice and Wonderland vibes, I knew I couldn’t go wrong with this book. It encompasses the weird and the wonderful with the world we know and it totally enticed me, I really enjoyed this read.

The Shadow of the Wind, Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Another one I should have read sooner. This book encapsulates my favourite genre, historical facts linked with a thriller/mystery and a bit of love for books thrown into the plot too. This is a really exciting read that really makes your brain work.

The Book Jumper, Mechthild Gläser

Who wouldn’t want to read a book about people who can literally jump into literature? I really enjoyed the premise of this story, I wanted to be one of the characters, I think it’s very magical when a book can make you feel like that.

I’d love to know what some of the best books you’ve read this year are, let me know in the comments!
