I love summer, particularly the hot days where I can read outside all weekend. It’s my birthday in the summer and YALC takes place. But it’s also the lead into autumn (or fall), which is another joint-favourite season of mine.
But why should we look forward to autumn? I feel like autumn is a season liked by people of a certain age, every time I mention to a family member that I look forward to it, they stare at me questioningly.
Autumn brings more rain, therefore more cosy days sat by the window reading
I have my mustard yellow armchair right next to my window, which I love to crack open and listen to the rain through in the autumn. It’s also just the right temperature outside that the cold air makes me need a blanket to feel even cosier. I can pass so many hours sat like this, a book in hand and the raindrops being my soundtrack.
We can start wearing jumpers again in autumn
Praise the return of the jumper! As I’ve said, I adore the summer and I love hot weather, but I hate dressing for it. I’m made for the months where I can customise my outfit with a good jacket or jumper, plus my mustard wardrobe lends itself best to these months. I get all excited when it hits a
temperature cold enough for me to bring my coats out of hiding.
Everywhere looks so beautiful, the leaves, the trees, the colours
As the leaves turn brown and orange, the world around us starts to become very beautiful in the autumn – not that it isn’t always stunning. The autumn colour pallet is one that gives off cosy and homely vibes and I love how warm the colours are. Basically, my Instagram aesthetic was made for the autumn. One of the redeeming factors for me about living in the middle of nowhere is how beautiful it looks at this time of year.
Autumn is the build-up to Halloween and then Christmas
In the UK Halloween isn’t such a big deal, but as a fantasy lover, I always enjoy this time of year. It’s an excuse to read as many fantasy books as you can, watch a horror film on TV and rewatch Halloween specials from your favourite TV shows – of which the Simpsons do some very good choices! Then, of course, it’s the build-up to Christmas. I used to be such a scrooge at Christmas, but something clicked at uni and since then I’ve loved it. I enjoy the community feel of Christmas and how jolly it makes everyone.
There are some amazing book releases coming out in autumn
Every month of the year sees some amazing new book releases, but I feel like early summer and autumn time is when we see some really exciting book releases. This year I’m looking forward to Serpent and Dove, Ninth House and Pumpkinheads – those are at the top of my wishlist! They’ll definitely be fueling my need for fantasy in the colder months.

I look forward to breezy days and colder weather! I live in the center of California, where it is VERY hot during the Summer months, and our winter is too short and never cold enough. I can’t wait to get out my hoodies, parkas, knits, and coats as well as alllll the leggings and fuzzy socks. Thanksgiving, an annual, weekend trip to the mountains/coast, and pumpkin patches are brought to me in Autumn, and I cannot wait!!
I love the colder months (and the hotter ones), but you can’t beat being able to snuggle up and get all warm!
Wonderful post! I can’t wait to unleash my closet filled with sweaters! I love bundling myself up in their warmth, when the days grow colder! And, yes, there are certainly many exciting new book releases during this season!

Great post, I love Autumn it’s by far my favourite season. I love beefing able to cosy up with a good book when it’s rainy outside, going for a walk and seeing all the leaves changing colours and of course Halloween which is my favourite holiday of the year as I love all things spooky 😀💜
I’m kinda meh on the rain .. first because that means the doxies won’t go pee in it, and second because I can work at the drive thru and depending on how hard it rains/from where, I get rain in the face XD
But yess !!! Jumpers !! I really need to find some cozy all black ones that I can wear for work. I always have the random urge to cook pumpkin stuff and throw leaves around ahaha — man, our fall started pretty cold over here :/ way colder than I like them,
