We’re nearing the end of another year, filled with amazing book that so many fantastic authors have put their time into creating. So which of these books should you welcome the new year in with? Here are my recommendations.
The Guest List, Lucy Foley
This is a super fast paced thriller that had me hooked and unable to put it down. It follows a small group of guests at a wedding on an isolated and creepy island. There has been a murder and we’re following the plot in the days leading up to the death, but we don’t know who died or killed them. This was so gripping and totally swept me away so it’s the perfect book to bring in the new year with!
These Violent Delights, Chloe Gong
If Romeo and Juliet in 1920’s Shanghai sounds like your sort of thing then These Violent Delights will be right up your street. In the middle of a viral outbreak spreading via a monster, Roma and Juliette are in opposing, rival gangs and are trying out how to stop this monster spreading madness. This is fantasy retelling with some brilliant interpretations of these well known characters.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, V. E. Schwab
This book is all about reflection and our value in this world and how we see our worth. It feels like New Years in a book really because of the amount of messages it’s filled with. It follows Addie who lives an immortal life after making a deal with the devil, but in exchange people never remember her. This book will really make you think and it is utterly brilliant too.
The Left-Handed Booksellers of London, Garth Nix
This fun fantasy is set in 1980’s London and follows a young girl trying to find out more about her father. In the process she is caught up with the booksellers of London, divided by left handed, spy – action based peeps, and the right handed, the intellects. This is a proper adventure story and was totally absorbing to dive into and I would totally recommend it for New Years.
I did buy The Guest List a while ago but just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet! I have too many books to read!
That Garth Nix book sounds amazing! I read a few things by him when I was younger but haven’t kept track of new releases. These Violent Delights and The Invisible Life were already on the TBR, but always nice to see that validated! Thanks for the suggestions, and happy new year!
