Going into this book I didn’t’ know much, but I was told it was similar to Harry Potter. Finishing the book, I can see where this opinion was coming from, but I think this book is totally different and I adored it.
In this book we follow Morrigan Crow, a cursed child set to die on her eleventh birthday, but not if Jupiter North has anything to say about it. She is whisked away to Nevermoor, a magical land where she has some tasks to take part in.
I loved the magic in this book, I felt like anything could happen, which is always a win for me. Now we’re not talking magic spells, more magic people and things. Morrigan stays in a hotel for her visit and it changes its form to suit her, which I think is amazing. Her bedroom is always changing itself and adapting to her needs, how cool is that?! I’d love my room to do that, then I could fit in more bookshelf space!
There are some really fun characters in this book too, including a giant cat, an eccentric and magical man and a troublemaking kid. I would love to see this as a film and watch these characters come to life on screen. They’re all just such good fun to read about and I can’t wait to enjoy the next book in this series, which is now on my Amazon wishlist!
This story is your typical adventure plot line and I love it! There are clear challenges to overcome and paths for each of the characters to take and it makes me so excited because I just love a story like this. I honestly can’t wait to read more!
I adored Nevermore and although I’ve definitely compared it to Harry Potter, I feel like it’s more of if Studio Ghibli and Harry Potter merged then this would be the world that was created. Lovely review, cannot wait to hear what you think about Wundersmith!
