January has been a cracker of a first month for 2020, I’ve read so many great books and have rated a lot of them very highly. When you see yourself getting ahead of your Goodreads goal, you know you’re onto a winner.

By far the highlights of my reading month had to be:
The God Game, Danny Tobey
A thriller focused around an AI that wants to play God and evoke havoc. Centred around a group of friends, this game takes over their lives and becomes their sole focus. I really loved this book, I felt totally absorbed and invested in the story and I couldn’t put it down for the first week of January. I’m really glad I started my year with this book, I think it’s one that will stay with me for a while now!

Buy the book from Amazon or Waterstones.
The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep, H. G. Parry
One of the characters in this book can bring characters out of their books, but there is a threat to the literary lives created and it’s up to the main characters to save them! I love books about books, they’re my favourite kind of books, especially when they’re about real books. I couldn’t put this down and felt so emotionally invested, it was truly exceptional.

All Your Twisted Secrets, Diana Urban
Six students are trapped in a room with a threat, either they decide one person to die or they all die. I am so into mystery, thriller YA at the moment so I was all over this book and it did not disappoint. I read most of this book over one day, stopping only for sleep, so you know it’s going to be a good read. I would definitely advise setting aside a weekend for this one because you won’t be able to put it down!

The other books I read that didn’t quite get a mention were:
The Sign of Four, Arthur Conan Doyle
Children of Blood and Bone, Tomi Adeyemi (reread)
Children of Virtue and Vengeance, Tomi Adeyemi
The Night Country, Melissa Albert
The Poppy War, R. F. Kuang (reread)
I reread two books this month so I could fully appreciate their sequels. I reread them via Audible, which worked really well for me because I could easily reacquaint myself with the story whilst not having to spend too much time physically rereading.
Generally, whilst I’ve read a few mid-level books, I think I’ve kicked 2020 off to a great start with 8 books read against my Goodreads goal of reading 50 books. I’m happy! What books did you read in January?

I feel like January will be my best reading month of the year as well. I read a total of 8 books, which is a lot for me considering I’m also in law school. Happy reading!!
That’s amazing at the same time as being at school too, well done you!!
I have heard really great things about Children of Blood and Bone! I really want to jump into the series like ASAP! Great wrap up!
I loved the first one, but the sequel just wasn’t as good sadly!
Great job getting through so many books in January. You really put quite the dent in your Goodreads challenge. I don’t know if January will be my best reading month this year or not, but I did do a ton of reading. All Your Twisted Secrets sounds quite intriguing, I love mystery but haven’t read many YA mysteries, will have to check that one out.
Oh my god honestly it’s so good, check it out for sure!
