The good, the bad and the ugly Christmas films

19/12/2018

When it comes to Christmas films, there are some real crackers, but there are also some absolutely awful cheesy movies that really shouldn’t have been made. I’ve decided to include a bit of both in my list of Christmas films.

The Good

The Holiday // Of course, this is on the list, it’s only one of the best Christmas films there ever was. This is not a cheap film, it has class and skill and a fantastic cast. It’s a must watch for me at Christmas.

Love Actually // Does anyone actually dislike this movie? There are way too many storylines not to love at least one of them! It’s a staple Christmas watch and it makes me feel excited when I see the countdown to Christmas appear on the screen.

Arthur Christmas // This is such a cute animated Christmas film, I love it! It’s about Santa’s son trying to save Christmas, but he’s not quite what you’d expect!

Saving Santa // Martin Freeman rocks his role as an inventor elf in this cute animation, definitely one to watch whilst doing your Christmas wrapping.

Elf // Need I say any more…?

A Muppets Christmas Carol // This is one of my favourite Christmas films, it’s cosy and cute and I just love it! I’ve also been reading the book this year too.

The Bad (Bearable)

I didn’t hate these ones, but I certainly didn’t love them either. They were fun to watch, but nothing to scream and shout about.

The Christmas Calendar // So I did like this one, but it had definite flaws and eye rolling moments. It’s all about a magic calendar predicting the main character’s days leading up to Christmas. It’s massively predictable, but that’s to be expected with these kinds of films really.

The Princess Switch // I thought I’d hate this one, but I surprisingly did not! It was quite good fun and the usual ‘oh my god you’re a stranger but you look exactly like me’ storyline.

The Ugly

A Christmas Prince & A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding // I don’t know how there were two of these films made… or why I watched them both, but they were not good. The best part was probably the Christmassy town they were set in, other than that, the romance killed me with cheese and falseness and the characters were torture.

Christmas Wedding Planner // No. Just no. This film was shocking! It had stupid, STUPID romances that I just could not believe. It wasn’t at all Christmassy and it is certainly up there with one of the worst films I have seen this year.

Please add some of your own Christmas film choices in the comments below, I’m sure I’ve forgotten to add a few on!

Thanks for this list. I’ve only seen one of them. This year we have decided, for our countdown, to have a Christmas movie might every night, so your selection will come in useful!

This is such a fun post! It’s really funny to see which Christmas movies people love and which they hate. My personal favorite is Christmas with the Kranks, but I know a toooon of people who hate it so it’s certainly a toss-up kind of movie 😂 I saw The Christmas Calendar but I thought it was super cheesy and honestly pretty boring, so it definitely wasn’t for me. I’m interested to see the Christmas Prince, but since you hated it so much maybe not lol!

Ohh I loved Christmas with the Kranks when I watched it! I’ve only seen it once a couple of years ago though, maybe I’m due for a rewatch!
I didn’t hate The Christmas Prince, but it certainly was extremely false and cheesy, I preferred The Christmas Calendar to it for sure.
