744 hours of December

December has been a fun and festive month and I’ve loved every second of it. It’s been nice to work towards the time off over the Christmas period, and celebrating the holiday itself. I’ve read a few really good books, watched a lot of crappy Christmas films and seen some live music. Here’s my December!

The Priory of the Orange Tree, Samantha Shannon // 5 STAR
Tower of Dawn, Sarah J Maas // 3 STAR
A Christmas Carol // 3 STAR
Slade House //4 STAR

December was the month that I finished the beast that is The Priory of the Orange Tree. This book was excellent, I loved it, it was rich, vast and fantastical. You can see my full review here, but for my wrap up, know this book holds a special place in my fantasy-loving heart.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding // 2 STAR
Christmas Wedding Planner // 1 STAR
The Man Who Invented Christmas // 3 STAR
The Christmas Calendar // 3 STAR
The Christmas Chronicles // 3.5 STAR
The Muppets Christmas Carol // 4 STAR
Arthur Christmas // 4 STAR
Ralph Breaks the Internet // 3.5 STAR

I feel like I’ve been watching all the crappy Christmas movies Netflix has to offer this month. I have to say Christmas Wedding Planner was by far the WORST of the Christmas films I have come across.. maybe ever. I think it can only claim to be a Christmas film because it’s set in the snow, other than that it is just a shocking romance. I wrote a post about the best and the worst of Christmas films.

TV Programs

A Very British Country House // 4 STAR
The Crown // 4 STAR

I finished The Crown this month, I thought it was a really interesting insight into a world I didn’t know much about. I can’t say I have much more of a fondness for the Royals, but I certainly know a bit more about them. I also watched A Very British Country House, which is a really fun Channel 4 documentary about Cliveden house, a very fancy hotel where Megan Markle stayed the night before her wedding. Basically, it just featured lots of very expensive weddings, which let me indulge in thoughts of a rich life.

I went to a gig in Cardiff at the start of the month, we saw You Me at Six in the student union there, apart from the aircon being broke, it was awesome! They captured such a great atmosphere and I had a really fantastic time. Apart from that, I’ve mainly been treating my ears with Christmas music for the one month of the year I’m actually able to listen to it… although I have definitely started to become a bit sick of it now.

How was your December?

I feel like when it comes to Christmas films it’s always safer to stick with the classics. Arthur Christmas is one of the christmas surprises for me. I was not expecting it to be so charming.
