Cliche Book Tag

I’ve been tagged by the lovely JennieLy to do the Cliche Book Tag so here we go!

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
A Book That Wasn’t or Couldn’t Be Better Than The Movie

For this one I have to go for Lord of the Rings, I know the books have a tone more detail in them, but they are also very long winded and have a lot of unneeded scenes. The films however are superb, action packed and filled with edge of your seat moments. Saying this, it would be cool to see more of the book characters featured in the film, but I understand there is already a big character list for this amazing trilogy!

THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE
A Rags to Riches or Riches to Rags Story

Can I use Cinder for this one? I’m only on book three of this series, but it seems she is in a very different and better position now than when she started the books. Sure she’s in some large amount of peril, but she’s a better person now and her character has definitely gone from rags to riches, I’m talking about this in the sense of having more friends, more understanding of who she is etc, as I haven’t yet read Winter.

THE APPLE DOES NOT FALL FAR FROM THE TREE
A Parent/Child Relationship That You Love

Throwing in a curveball here and saying Harry and Molly Weasley, I know she’s not his actual mum, but she treats him as one of her own. She’s always looking out for him and caring for him, he couldn’t have asked for a better family to be welcomes into. We all need a bit of Molly Weasley in our life.

YOU CAN’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER
A Good Book That Needs a Better Cover

Turtles All The Way Down , by John Green – which was to be honest, a book I didn’t enjoy all that much anyway. But the cover for it is not the best, it doesn’t give any indication to the story and I’m not a fan of the colour choices, it only screams pick me up because of how well populated about the internet it is.

YOU CAN’T PLEASE EVERYONE
A Book You Hate That Everyone loves

Warcross was a book that had so much potential, such a cool plot line with some really interesting ideas of the future. But for me, I just wasn’t engaged and I struggled to get through it. It was written in a very basic way and the plot was obvious, I like to be surprised in a book but this one followed every YA narrative trope.

WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER
What’s a Book That Made You a Better Person For Having Read It

Honestly the list could go on and on for this one, but the Passenger series by Alexandra Bracken reminded me of some past loves that I wanted to rediscover. I used to play the violin as a kid and this series definitely made me want to pick that back up again. Also it made me feel my passion for history rise back up and had me researching into lots of different time periods.

IGNORANCE IS BLISS
A Book That Is Bad But You Just Don’t Want to Admit It

*Whispers* Everything, Everything , by Nicola Yoon. I’m sorry guys, but I just didn’t get on with this book as well as I thought I would. It was predicable and fell into the YA tropes, which made me grow easily bored with it and it offered me no challenge in reading it. I also think there is too much hype surrounding it since the release of the film, it just didn’t reach the expectations for me.

THERE IS NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT
What is Your Favourite Contemporary Book?

I loved reading Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, it was fun and easy going and at the time, it was just what I was after. I’m yet to read anymore of these books, but this one gave me a sense of wanting to be in that character’s world, which is always what I look for in a book. I know it’s predictable and obvious, which is usually something I don’t like, but I like the school setting of this one and the characters, it made me feel more engage and empathetic.

BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY
A Book You Don’t Want to Read in Case It’s Bad

I’ve been putting off reading Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo for a while, because one, I’m not the biggest Leigh Bardugo fan and two, I loved the film so much I think I’d just have that in my mind whilst reading the book. I know it’s a different story, but it’s still not a genre I’ve read much of before so I don’t know what I’ll think of it. I will read it at some point in the near future!
